When to Air Out the Inside
Did you know that your efforts to save energy could be compromising your indoor air quality? That’s because harmful elements can’t escape an airtight environment, and become concentrated indoors instead. We recommend that you “air out” your home about once a week. In the winter, turn off your heating system and open a few windows while you make a run to the grocery store or take a walk around the neighborhood. In the summer, open windows at night and keep them closed during the heat of the day. As Westinghouse heating and air experts, we can recommend additional products and practices to improve the air quality of your home. Call us for a consultation today.
Don't Let Your Fireplace Work Against You
It’s hard to believe, but your fireplace could be making your home colder and forcing your heater to work harder. Warmed air can fly right up your chimney, so keep the damper closed unless there’s a fire going. You can also keep reduce drafts by caulking around the hearth and checking the seal on the flue damper to make sure it’s as snug as possible. If you never use your fireplace, consider plugging and sealing the flue completely. Combine this idea with additional tips and energy efficient equipment options from us, the Westinghouse HVAC experts, to reduce annual energy costs. Call for more information today.
Does AFUE Have You Confused
The terms you encounter when shopping for a new heating system can be confusing. Like AFUE, or Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. As with your car’s miles-per-gallon rating, a higher AFUE rating means a higher efficiency unit. An AFUE of 90% means 90% of the fuel is used to heat your home, while the other 10% is wasted in gases vented outside. Choose a higher AFUE to save more energy. As Westinghouse heating and air experts, we can help you choose the right system to optimize your home comfort and energy savings. Call us for more information today.
