Alarming Facts About Air Filters

Here’s an alarming statistic from Westinghouse: 50% of homes with central heating and A/C systems don’t get a regular filter change. In fact, 10% have never had a filter replacement. For optimum air quality, you should check your air filter every month, and replace it when it looks dirty or after three months—whichever comes first. For extra protection, install a HEPA grade furnace filter that will remove more particles overall, and also catch the tiniest ones that pass right through regular filters.  As Westinghouse HVAC experts, we can recommend products and practices to improve the air quality of your home. Call us for a consultation today.

Choosing the Right SEER

As summer heats up, you might be thinking about a new air conditioner. Do your wallet a favor and choose a high efficiency model. New air conditioners come labeled with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER), a standard that lets you calculate how much electricity the air conditioner will consume. The higher the SEER, the less it will cost you to operate the appliance to achieve the same level of cooling. As HVAC experts, Westinghouse can help you navigate the many options available in energy efficient air conditioning. Call us to set up a consultation today.

Dirty Air Filters Damage Systems

A dirty air filter can substantially increase the cost of running your heater and A/C. When was the last time you changed yours? Check your air filter every month, especially during heavy use periods like winter and summer. If the filter looks dirty after a month, change it. At a minimum, change the air filter every three months to keep dust and dirt from building up in the system, which could lead to expensive repairs or even early system failure. Contact the Westinghouse HVAC experts for even more tips on saving energy while optimizing home comfort.
